Foreword
Article Outline
Heart failure (HF) is a very common disorder. Coronary artery disease accounts for more than half of the patients with HF. Despite great advances in the treatment of cardiovascular disease, there are a large number of patients with end-stage HF in whom radical therapy (for example, cardiac transplantation) is not available.
The possibility of the use of precursor cells (for example, embryonic stem cells and bone marrow-derived cells) being used for myocardial regeneration in the treatment of patients with HF is very exciting. In this issue of Current Problems in Cardiology, Dr. Frishman and colleagues present an exhaustive, up-to-date review of myocardial regeneration and stem cells repair; it has 401 references.
The editorial board and I are grateful to Dr. Frishman and colleagues for this very exciting and important contribution.
