Foreword

Article Outline

Apoptosis is programmed cell death and is one mechanism of cell death. It is an aspect of basic cell biology and cell pathology that is important for clinicians to know about and to understand. However, to most of us clinicians it appears to be a confusing and unintelligible topic.

Dr. Jagat Narula has done some of the pioneering work in this field and is an excellent practicing clinician. His co-authors have provided a comprehensive and excellent article on this topic that has 356 references.

The Editorial Board and I are grateful to these authors for this superb article and to Drs. Blakenberg and Strauss⁎⁎ for their comments.

  •  Dr. Francis Blankenberg is an Associate Professor of Radiology and Pediatrics, Molecular Imaging Program at Stanford, Stanford University.
  • ⁎⁎ Dr. H. William Strauss is the Clinical Director, Nuclear Medicine, Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, 1275 York Avenue, NY, NY 10021 and Professor of Radiology, Weill Medical College of Cornell University.
